What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include children who are entitled to free school meals (FSM), children looked after by the Local Authority (CLA) or adopted from their care and the children of Armed Forces personnel. It is mostly allocated to schools based primarily on the number of children entitled to free school meals (FSM). Schools have the freedom to spend the grant, which is additional to the underlying school budget, in a way they think will best ensure the continued progress of and to raise of attainment of the children most vulnerable to disadvantage. Some of this support may raise attainment for other pupils as well. All spending is intended to lift the attainment of pupils, although some is not spent directly on academic support. Children entitled to the Pupil Premium typically make up about 30% of our school population.
